Let it Snow!

February can be a bit of a downer—it rivals January as the coldest month of the year and typically bests it as the snowiest—and many of us are counting down the days till we can shed our snow boots, hats, gloves, scarves, wool sweaters, extra thick socks, long underwear, and all the rest of the layers it takes to survive winter.

Even with all the season’s drawbacks (from slippery sidewalks to icy driving conditions), we wouldn’t trade it for anything else. After all, we’re New Englanders! This winter, we’re embracing the cold and with it, the cozy. The snow-blanketed landscape affords a sort of stillness that doesn’t exist any other time of the year. For us, winter is the season of hunkering down: with a hearty bowl of tomato soup and a gooey grilled cheese after making snow angels with the grandkids; with a recipe for homemade bread and a slow-cooker stew that just wasn’t feasible (or desirable) in the activity-charged days of summer; with a meal shared among friends.

It’s also the season of self-care. Shovel-sore muscles and chapped skin abound thanks to battling the elements. Between slow sips of steaming tea, we’re finding rest and taking active steps towards restoration. Muscle-relief balm, face masks, and hydrating lotion are equally as important as all the comfort foods we’re celebrating this season.

This February, when the weather outside is frightful, may your time inside with family and friends be delightful. Let it snow, let it snow, let is snow!
