Naturally Delicious Ice Cream Sundaes

Where were you, Friday, June 26th between, say 4:00 and 7:00pm?

New Morning’s 10th Annual Ice Cream Social to benefit the good works of Safe Haven went off with a bang! Great ice cream, really special personal care features, excited kids, and a combination of two and four-legged friends from Litchfield’s own, Arethusa Farm Dairy.

But wait! The bang was an incredible, event changing thunder storm extravaganza that launched yet another twist for New Morning’s tenth annual event. Thanks to the generosity of Arethusa Farm owners, this year, we had tent cover which provided shelter as the stalwart guests and personal care specialists huddled together against the storm. Larry Hunt let loose with his usual flare of masks and conversation, while Doug Mahard, the sole survivor of the entertainment, “Ragged Jeans,” took the logical road and chowed down with store owner, John Pittari. Let them eat ice cream! Doug had done a fabulous job of installing an elaborate sound system that was hastily hustled to the cars by band faithful members Pete and Dave.

The clouds rolled in as all gazed heavenward, wondering how fast one could eat that sundae. Then the wind came, blowing tent sides, chairs and trash bins down that hadn’t already been toppled in anticipation.

Remaining guests and staff were outright spoiled by the lasting presence of the kind and wonderful caring hands of the “Body Comfort Team 2009”- Raffaele, President & Founder of Mod.Skin Labs (East Granby), mini massages by Rosetta Eddy from Mind/Body Works (Woodbury) and help from her friend and foot reflexologist out of South Britian, Hedda Leonord, and the ever-wonderful organic skin care products and hand massages by Lisa Lee, Founder, Adivasi Body (Bridgewater).

Thank goodness, the faithful Arethusa family stayed to offer its wonderful creamy local milk sampling, bolstered by a HUGE old-fashioned glass cookie jar filled with Gilbert Gourmet Goodies’ Sensational Sugar Cookies for dunking (or not). A thorough cookie study was held under cover during the storm, with and without milk, which results can be made available by personal request sometime in 2009. The dear cows, The Holstein (black) calf, Deliteful and the Jersey, Justify ate their way placidly through the stormy event, to the delight of all.

100% of all moneys donated after expenses, will be donated to Safe Haven, courtesy of New Morning and Arethusa Farm Dairy.

See you next year! Sans rain. We hope. Every year’s an adventure and 2009 did not disappoint! Thanks to all who made it and those of you who made it happen! We couldn’t have done it without you!
