New Morning Natural & Organic and Heritage Hotel present:

A benefit for Community-based programs at The Audubon Center at Bent of the River Saturday, February 6, 2010
The Heritage Hotel - 522 Heritage Road, Southbury, Connecticut
Cheers for Chocolate!
Chocolate Underground was a sweet success! The evening created a Central American vibe that whisked the attendees away from the doldrums of the winter blues to the tropics of Belize. Thanks to the rhythmic drum beats of Femina Melodia, the tropical tone of whimsy and fun was set for the evening as attendees walked down the stairs of the Heritage Hotel and entered Chocolate Underground. A big thank you to all those who so generously donated to the Bent of the River and came out to partake in the merriment and fundraising for the night. The food provided by our Executive Chef of the Provender, Carol Byer-Alcorace was out of this world delicious. Mouths were watering as delectable hors d’hoeuvres were passed around the reception room. Dinner and dessert brought the crowd to an uproarious applause for its savory and sweet splendor. Chef Carol’s feast blended the flavors of Belize and Chocolate into a perfect symphony of flavors. This year we were delighted to have Laurie Buckle, the editor for Fine Cooking Magazine as our Mistress of Ceremonies, who did a spectacular job of brining the evening together. A big thank you to White Silo Winery for coming to our event and sharing their luscious fruit wines. A big thank you to Hopkins Vineyard and Bishop’s Orchards Winery for their generous wine donations as well for the evenings festivities. And the night would not have been complete without Coffee, Tea, Etc’s fair trade coffee on hand with dessert.
Hats off to the dedicated staff at the Heritage Hotel, the volunteers from Bent of the River, and New Morning for making this event ebb and flow from beginning to end!

Hopkins Vineyards of New Preston, returned to this year’s event featuring its Cabernet Franc, an entirely estate-grown, full-bodied red. Hopkins is the only vineyard in Connecticut with a microclimate influenced by an inland lake (Waramaug)- which extends the growing season, allowing them to successfully grow grape varieties that ordinarily wouldn’t thrive in the northeast. All the grapes are grown on their 35 acres using an integrated pest management system that eliminates insects that destroy the grape plant. http://www.hopkinsvineyard.com/index.asp
White Silo Farm & Winery of Sherman, featured their stylishly delicious white and dessert wines- The dry and crisp, Dry Rhubarb; the full bodied, Black Currant; and for dessert, Sweet Raspberry. White Silo Farm & Winery is a small, specialty winery. Visitors can tour the old barn where the fermentation, bottling, and corking rooms preserve the classical art of wine making. All of the wine is produced from their own farm grown fruit. More info and event calendar: www.whitesilowinery.com
Bishops Orchards Wines boasts decades of fresh produce and seasonal treats, all grown on 320 acres in Guilford and Northford and delivered direct to consumers from a bustling farm stand operation. After years of providing state wineries with fresh juices to make their wines, co-owner Keith Bishop decided to expand his capability to include the production of fruit wines, complete with a wine tasting bar that opened in 2005. Keith’s hard work has paid off and in 2009; Bishops took home several medals from the International Eastern Wine Competition, including a gold and silver in the apple still wine category.
