We'd like to thank all New Morning staff, vendors and performers, who  generously donate their time and talent for this event.

9th Annual Ice Cream Social, Friday, June 27th

This year, outside New Morning, the skies threatened rain but thought better of it, as a deluge of people arrived to support a great cause and enjoy fabulous natural and organic sundaes. Martha and Bill Bless, local singer songwriters, were accompanied by longtime friend and bass extraordinaire, Kenny Kaufman of Nyack, NY on bass. Martha and Bill played to the festive crowd. They’ve been performing throughout the northeast- Connecticut and New York- for many years, including features on WPKN radio. They offered an eclectic blend of styles including two-part harmonies and intricate guitar, from alternative acoustic to blues and jazz. That’s not all! They were a huge hit with the kids. Bill and Martha are English high school teachers in Woodbury and New Fairfield. Music is often an integral part of their school day. (More in the News-Times) Celtic harp player, Julie Shrake kindly returned another year to play her melodious Celtic harp music for the crowd. What a wonderful addition to this special event!

It could be they just finished two days of scooping ice cream for New Morning’s 9th Annual Ice Cream Social. Each year, many New Morning employees donate time to make the event a success. Safe Haven serves women and children in greater Woodbury and has offices in Southbury and Waterbury. Jamie Tilley, Buyer/Receiver for Perishables, is New Morning’s longest living scooper, having perfected his scooping skills every year since 2003. Jeff Anderson, a resident of Waterbury, and Jamie, from Woodbury, bring hands-on experience in music to their ice cream duties, they perform together in a band known as Palance- Jamie on drums, and Jeff, lead vocals and guitar. Next time, you’re in the Store; ask one of them about their upcoming New Haven performance at Café Nine in July. In addition to selling sundaes, (many vendors donate ice cream, sorbet and toppings) other employees, like Jeanette, New Morning’s aesthetician, personally get donations of personal care products and clothing, all of which are then delivered to Safe Haven in Waterbury along with 100% of the proceeds from the evening- This year, New Morning cleared over $1200 for Safe Haven at the event.

Each year, longtime New Morning customers, Byron and Rosetta Eddy of Mind/BodyWorks, located in Woodbury, graciously donate a free massage. This year, another New Morning customer, Woodbury resident, Sandy Stone, walked away with a free massage. Congratulations, Sandy!

Safe Haven can use your help all year long! Donations of clothing and personal care products too.  You can call the office: In Waterbury- Call Peggy Panagrossi, Executive Director, 203-575-0388, at 29 Central Avenue, or email, womens@mindspring.com
