Ice Cream Social 2005 A Socially Responsible Affair
In 2005, United Natural Foods, a major New Morning distributor, played a key role in supporting the community event, from posting the Safe Haven wish list in their Dayville facility, supplying an entire pallet of personal care product, to donating over 10 cases of ice cream. Thanks to the generosity of all parties, New Morning will be writing a check (which includes a 100% match to all donations) of over $2500 dollars, a third higher than 2004.

Safe Haven offers free supportive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault from the Southbury and greater Woodbury areas. The following statistics about this form of abuse gave us pause. We hope they give you a reason to be generous. Thank you!
1. Every 15 seconds a woman is battered in the U.S. 2. Battering is the single greatest cause of injury to women in the United States. 3. In one out of six marriages in the U.S., there is a pattern of abuse. 4. Nearly one-fourth of American women will be abused by a current or former partner at some point in their lives. 5. Sixty percent of battered women are beaten while they are pregnant. 6. At least 70% of men who batter their wives sexually or physically abuse their children.
You can still buy ice cream at New Morning for $2.50 per container, 100% of which will be donated to Safe Haven. And, New Morning is matching all donations. In addition, New Morning is still accepting donations of household supplies, personal care and paper products. Call 203-263-0673, ext. 317 for more info.
